<p>Built in 1929 by Hollywood legend, Charlie Chaplin, the intention was to create his own office space. Before it was completed, however, Mr. Chaplin lost the building in the divorce settlement to his first wife, Lita Grey.</p><p>In the late 1980’s, architect Josh Schweitzer adapted the building for owners, Executive Chef Mark Peel, Pastry Chef Nancy Silverton and Wine Buyer Manfred Krankl, for what was to become a bakery and a restaurant.</p><p>Campanile Restaurant and La Brea Bakery opened in 1989. Since then both Campanile and La Brea Bakery have been the recipients of numerous awards and nominations, including James Beard Outstanding Restaurant Award, Distinguished Restaurant of North America, Nation’s Restaurant News Restaurant of North America, Los Angeles Culinary Master of the Year, and nominated for James Beard Outstanding Wine Service Award and James Beard Best California Chef.</p>
